With an Alpepass ski pass in your pocket, you are free to visit and combine nine ski centres in Fjord Norway, including the famous Strandafjellet. The adventure starts between the eternal ice of the Jostedalsbreen glacier, the peaks of the Sunnmøre Alps, and the beautiful Norwegian fjords.

The Alpepass ski pass covers a good chunk of Sunnmøre and Nordfjord in the northern part of Fjord Norway. The area consist of fjords, high mountain peaks, and the massive Jostedalsbreen glacier. The mountains here are up to 2,000 metres high and are visited by skiers well into June. And the views are naturally impeccable. Blue fjords of all shapes and sizes wind their way beneath the white expanses.

Lots of lifts

An Alpepass gives you access to 32 lifts, more than 60 slopes, terrain parks, freeriding and, of course, lots of snow and action-packed fun. The biggest Alpepass ski centre is Strandafjellet, which has both a chair lift and a gondola lift. The centre boasts Scandinavia’s best freeriding terrain and has been voted Norway’s best ski centre for freeriding several years in a row.

The eight other ski centres also hold their own for families with children and those who enjoy freeriding. Here, you can enjoy great days on the slopes with T-bar lifts, plenty of space, and untouched powder.

Powder pass

When it snows in Fjord Norway, it often snows a lot. That means plenty of fun in the extensive terrain around the Alpepass centres as well.

Stryn is a well-known summer skiing destination, but is also great for winter skiing and has an extensive freeriding terrain between the four mountain peaks that surround the ski centre. Arena Overøye is another great place for skiing enthusiasts. Here, the skiers are well spread out, which means short queues. Powder fans can also enjoy the extensive, varied terrain at Harpefossen.

Fun for all age groups

Skiing is especially fun when the whole family can do it together. Most of the Alpepass ski centres are suitable for children and families.

Fjellsetra is a typical family-friendly centre where everyone will find something they like, from cross-country skiing to freeriding and park riding. Ørskogfjellet is brilliant for beginners and is popular with families, and lies only a short distance from the city of Ålesund.

At Hornindal, everyone uses the same lift and jumps off where they like. Volda is also great for children, whilst its big brother Strandafjellet simply has the most activities for every taste.

Cross-country skiing close by

Most of the ski centres have prepared cross-country tracks which are generally floodlit on dark evenings. Maybe some “horizontal” skiing will make a nice change after days on the slopes? Some of these trails are of such a high standard that they have hosted Norwegian championships and junior world skiing championships.

You can buy the Alpepass at all the ski centres we’ve mentioned. Get more information at the official alpepass website.

    Safety in the mountains

Norway is an incredible place to explore, with untamed mythical landscapes, mountains, valleys, and fjords. Before you enter the outdoors, get familiar with the nine simple rules of the Norwegian mountain code to help you stay safe.

    1. Plan your trip and inform others about the route you have selected.
    2. Adapt the planned routes according to ability and conditions.
    3. Pay attention to the weather and the avalanche warnings.
    4. Be prepared for bad weather and frost, even on short trips.
    5. Bring the necessary equipment so you can help yourself and others.
    6. Choose safe routes. Recognize avalanche terrain and unsafe ice.
    7. Use a map and a compass. Always know where you are.
    8. Don’t be ashamed to turn around.
    9. Conserve your energy and seek shelter if necessary.

Read the mountain code with supplementary comments.
